Be Spontaneous | Points North On A Whim

My mom finds it funny that my friends and I put so much into our birthday celebrations.  There are usually big dinners, themed parties or weekend trips.  It's an opportunity, or maybe more of an excuse, to over eat and drink for the purpose of celebrating someone we love.

When I recently reached out to my dear friend Steven about what he wanted to do to celebrate his birthday, he said "I am going to be spontaneous." With only a carry-on and a camera, he headed up North.  Here's to stepping out of our over-scheduled lives and being more spontaneous!

Please enjoy this glimpse of Steven's photo journal and for the entire adventure

Friday Finds | Modern Ceramics by Emily Reinhardt

Emily Reinhardt Ceramic Artist

I found Emily's work on Etsy while searching for a birthday gift for a friend, and fell in love with her soft modern designs.  Her small faceted vessels are just the right size for a small plant or succulent, and her small jewelry dishes are the perfect spot for your most treasured jewels.  Next time you are shopping for that special gift think of these hand crafted made to order ceramic designs made with love.

Entertaining | Connecticut Shore Meets Venice Beach

I was so excited when my dear friend Kadi Lee, Celebrity Hair Colorist and Blogger at Highbrow Hippie reached out to OneNine Design to collaborate on her upcoming 36th birthday.  She wanted to bring her memories of Connecticut summers to California with an old school lobster bake.  I love a good theme and couldn't wait to get started. I hope you enjoy the evolution of the planning, design, collaboration and celebration.

To keep things personal and authentic we pulled decor
items from Kadi's home and mixed it
with locally sourced finds.

Each kit included a personalized note from Kadi, napkins, lobster bib, mallet, lobster cracker, lobster fork, dinner menu, lobster bib and instruction on how to crack and eat a lobster.

Bye, Bye World Cup

Like most of the world my last month has been filled with the excitement of the World Cup.   This photo taken by Venice local, Steven Lake pretty much sums up how I feel about the conclusion.   Thank God this only comes around every four years, because I don't think my liver and pocketbook could take much more.  Congrats Germany, we will see you again in four years!

First Impressions

I have always loved front doors.  I am not sure if it's the intrigue of what’s inside, the power of a first impression or simply a design element that always seems to catch my eye.
On a recent trip to Tulum, I came across a charming Hotel and Italian Restaurant, Posada Margherita .  I fell in love with it’s eclectic design and especially the colorful doors that lined the walkway up to the open air restaurant set on the beach.

What does your front door say about you?
